1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4
The Queen's Gambit Accepted (1.d4 d5 2.c4 dxc4) is the oldest way to meet the gambit — and not as greedy as it looks: Black's ...dxc4 is temporary, intending ...b5 or the ...e5/...c5 hits to undermine White's center and regain the pawn with equality. Rubinstein and later Kramnik refined it into a fully sound weapon.
White's most testing tries are 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.e3 followed by Bxc4 and a big center, and central grabs with an early e4. Typical themes: Black's queenside play with ...a6 and ...b5, White's d4-d5 space levers, and early ...c5/...e5 strikes. The QGA teaches clean central chess — perfect for players who want classical understanding rather than heavy theory.
