The f3-e4/f6-e5 Barrier

The pawn barrier f3-e4 against f6-e5 (or its mirror image) defines the plans of both sides: the player with more space attacks on the wing where his chain points. The barrier itself is strong but immobile, and the chapter shows how it is maintained — and how it is breached.
